Return from Dallas

I've been invited to visit my uncle John and his wife Lori in Surprise, Arizona. I haven't seen either of them since I was in high school so it'll be interesting to reconnect. They're good folks.

Days Six through Eleven

Saturday, June 7 - Thursday, June 12

Ed will arrive by plane on Saturday morning. We'll spend the weekend in Dallas and then he'll fly back to Seattle on Wednesday the 11th. We'll visit my family and the friends we have in commmon while we're both in town together.

After I put Ed back on a plane, I'll spend another day in Dallas with my brother and my peeps.

I'll have about 2800 miles so far, which will put me at 3500 miles total on the tires. I'll probably need to change the rear in Dallas while I'm there. I doubt it'll make it back another 2100 miles to Seattle. We'll see.

Day Five - Colorado City, CO to Dallas, TX

Friday, June 6, 2008 - 663 miles

Another hauling day. Colorado City, CO to Dallas, TX. I should arrive in Dallas on Friday evening.

Day Four - Jackson, WY to Colorado City, CO

Thursday, June 5, 2008 - 669 miles

This is where I've got to start hauling the mail. Mileage becomes important in the midwest if I'm going to be in Dallas on time.

Wallace, ID to Gardiner, WY. This puts me very near the north entrance to Yellowstone.

Sometimes Google Maps doesn't generate the HTML code for these maps correctly. If you want to see the route, click on "Larger Map" and then scroll around.

I'll leave the house in Seattle and stop somewhere east of Coeur D'Alene, ID. For reference purposes, I've chosen Wallace, ID as a marker.

RESET

If you visited here before today, you might remember a course that began in Seattle, stopped in Banff, then proceded thru Glacier, Yellowstone, and Teton National Parks.

This is a reset / reschedule / reorganization posting.

See, the weather is going to be painfully cold and wet in Banff. Glacier National Park won't be open until a week after I want to pass thru it. There is no advantage to restarting my trip after my friends' wedding in Banff.

So what we're gonna do is drive the car from Seattle to Banff on Friday, May 30. We'll attend the wedding on May 31. We'll drive home on Sunday, June 1. I'll leave from Seattle to do my trip on Monday, June 2.

I'll reorganize the route and stopping points in subsequent blog entries. Lots of this will be highway because I'm shortening the trip by one day, but I've scheduled one whole day in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Yes, I know I could spend a week there.

Early June weather

I've been doing some research. The roads inside Glacier National Park won't be open to traffic until June 13, nearly two weeks after I'd be in the area. Yellowstone will only have been open about 3 weeks when I arrive.

At this point, I'm going to play it by ear. Flexibility is going to be important because the weather is too iffy in early June.
